Bob Caskey, candidate for House District 55, recently made
a trip to Arizona to visit the border patrol, the Minutemen
and Maricopa County's "Sheriff Joe" (famous for his "tent
city" prison). Bob's trip was recently featured in the
Daily Sentinel and he came away with a hands-on perspective
of critical immigration and law enforcement issues. If you

Colorado's senators split Thursday over a $109 billion
emergency spending bill, which Sen. Wayne Allard said was
loaded with "egregious" pork barrel spending.

By a 78-20 vote, senators approved the bill, which provides
money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, hurricane
relief and other projects added during the debate.

Allard, R-Loveland, was among the 20 Republicans on the
losing side, saying he opposed it because went far beyond
the $92 billion that President Bush had requested.

"To me, this was a vote to impose fiscal sanity on the
appropriations process," Allard said in a statement after
the vote. "I believe emergency supplemental spending should
be for actual emergencies not pork barrel spending, and
some of the provisions in the final bill turned out to be
pork barrel at its most egregious," Allard said.

Among the "egregious" spending, Allard was concerned that
the bill included $6 million for sugar cane growers in
Hawaii, $15 million for a strategy to promote seafood and
$15 million for "ewe lamb replacement," Allard chief of
staff Sean Conway said.

Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Denver, voted yes, along with 42 other
Democrats, 34 Republicans and one Independent.
