New Caucus Registration System

Good news for all Mesa County Republicans planning to attend their precinct caucus!

For the past few years, the Colorado State GOP has been investing in new online technology designed to streamline the caucus and convention registration process.  After extensive testing, including go-live tests in selected counties, the system is now ready for a statewide roll-out.

Beginning January 3, 2012, Mesa County Republicans can visit www.caucus.cologop.org to preregister for the February 7, 2012 caucus.  Although preregistration is optional, use of the system is encouraged since it will speed at-the-door check-in and keep registrants updated via e-mail.

Click here to view the press release.

The Mesa County Clerk and Recorder is awaiting approval of new precinct maps that align precinct boundaries with newly reapportioned State Senate and House districts.  It is expected the new precincts may not be uploaded to the system until January 9, 2012.  If you preregister before that date, the system will automatically send you an e-mail confirming your new precinct number and caucus location.

We are excited about this new system and hope it will be enthusiastically adopted by all Mesa County Republicans.

Please watch for additional updates, we will immediately send new information as it becomes available.

Reapportionment Update

Now that the Colorado Legislature and Courts have completed reapportionment at the State level, County governments are in the process of aligning precinct boundaries with the reapportioned State Senate and State Representative districts.

The Mesa County Clerk and Recorder has proposed a map that achieves several goals, which among other factors, balances the number of voters in each precinct by consolidating precincts and moving precinct boundaries.

If the proposed map is approved by the County Commissioners, here is what can be expected:

  • The total number of precincts will be reduced from 82 to 57.
  • Precinct Committee Persons (PCPs) currently serving on the Central Committee will continue to serve until February 7, 2012.
  • On February 7, 2012, two PCPs will be elected at each of the 57 precinct caucuses.
  • Since it is important to have trained PCPs facilitate the precinct caucuses, any current PCP interested in facilitating a precinct caucus should call Ruth Ehlers (970-257-7120).
  • PCPs facilitating a precinct caucus must reside in their new precinct.
  • For new precincts that do not have a current PCP residing within the new precinct boundary, District Captains (DCs) will be asked to facilitate the caucus.
  • Anyone facilitating a caucus is expected to attend the caucus training scheduled for January 19, 2012 and the Mock Caucus scheduled for January 26, 2012.
  • It is anticipated that caucus packets will be distributed at the January 19 training session.

After approved map changes are uploaded on January 9, 2012, voters may want to call the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder (970-244-1662) to confirm their new precinct number.

It is important to note that this is a work-in-progress situation, so please watch for additional updates that will be sent as new information is available.
